Intervention Specialist

Sidwell Friends is seeking a part time Intervention Specialist to join our Lower School Student Support Team and work with students in grades 1-3. The successful candidate should find joy and purpose in working with elementary-aged children, take an asset-based approach to student support and have a strong background in working with neurodivergent learners.

The Intervention Specialist should have experience supporting students with dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia, as well experience supporting students for whom attention or anxiety impact their learning. Candidates should use an evidence-based approach to supporting student learning and be comfortable using and interpreting a range of screeners and diagnostic assessments to guide instruction and to track the efficacy of our interventions. A deep knowledge of Orton Gillingham (or a similar evidence based approach to structured literacy interventions) is essential.

This position requires strengths in organization, initiative and communication, and we are looking for candidates who are flexible, demonstrate a positive attitude, have a good sense of humor, are proactive and creative in their support of children and who are a kind and calming presence within the community.

We are flexible on the schedule but would ideally love a candidate who could join us five days a week for the morning blocks. This position is scheduled for 20 hours per week.

Applicants should have a minimum of 5 years in Education and a degree in Elementary Education, Special Education, Reading Specialist, etc. Master’s degrees are preferred.
