Seasonal Field Hockey Junior Varsity Head Coach

Sidwell Friends School, a coeducational Quaker day school, seeks a part-time seasonal Field Hockey Junior Varsity Head Coach for the Washington, D.C. campus. Leading with Sidwell Friends School (SFS) values, the Junior Varsity Head Coach reports to the Field Hockey Head Coach and Athletics Director and is responsible for initiating various aspects of the Field Hockey Program such as recruiting Sidwell athletes; scheduling opponents; training and coaching the Junior Varsity team; training and coaching student-athletes; participating in the selection and evaluation process for seasonal assistant coaches; participating in professional development activities that add value to their coaching performance; attending mandatory meetings, other training, and SFS community programming.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Represent Sidwell Friends and the Field Hockey Program professionally in all aspects, including during the recruitment of Sidwell scholars, training, and coaching the members of the Swimming & Diving Program—model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Coordinate the development and promotion of the Field Hockey Program; assess players’ skills and assign team positions; and determine game strategy based on the team’s capabilities and follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Organize and schedule practice sessions; organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct a preseason meeting with all student-athletes and parents before the first official game.
  • Maintain and secure all Field Hockey equipment and uniforms.
  • Abide by SFS, Independent School League, Mid-Atlantic Conference, and District of Columbia State Athletic Association rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a high standard of integrity in all aspects of team management that fosters a culture that promotes the School’s Quaker values and the student’s academic experience and intentionally integrates the School’s core values as the framework to coach and build athletic programs. A thoughtful approach and desire to constantly improve and innovative thinking are essential to the success of this role.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years experience as an assistant or head Field Hockey coach at middle and high school levels
  • Demonstrate effective coaching skills and techniques, and be knowledgeable of the rules, regulations, and strategies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
  • Available to work nights and weekends.
  • As a condition of employment, the selected candidate will complete and clear a background and fingerprint screening before the first day of work. Upon hire, they will obtain CPR Certification, First Aid training, Bus training, and other requirements immediately, upon hire.

Compensation

  • Stipend $12,840. Stipend will be commensurate with experience and qualifications
