English Teacher

Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC, and Bethesda, MD, seeks a full-time English teacher for its Upper School, beginning in the 2026–27 school year.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to inspire and support students and will be comfortable working both collaboratively and independently in an environment committed to academic excellence, equity, justice, service, and students’ social-emotional well-being.

Candidates must be comfortable teaching courses within our core curriculum, which includes a diverse range of American and Anglophone literature. We welcome candidates with additional subject-area expertise that enriches our program. An appreciation for adolescents and a sense of humor are essential. A bachelor’s degree in English is required; an advanced degree is preferred.

Teaching positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus-based; therefore, this role requires in-person instruction. The position begins in late August 2026.

Salary
Salary range: $62,096–$132,180. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
